Eight new endowed professorships, designed to enhance medical education at the LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, became a reality in October when the Louisiana Board of Regents presented $320,000 in state matching funds for the professorships. Sally Clausen, Louisiana commissioner of higher education, presented the check. Each endowed professorship requires $100,000 in funding, with $40,000 from Louisiana Education Quality Support Fund that was constitutionally established in 1986. The $60,000 institutional match is from private donations.
Sally Clausen, Louisiana commissioner of higher education, visited Centenary College to present a ceremonial check for the endowed professorships approved earlier this year.
The check was the state’s portion of matching funds for $1,040,000 to fund 26 new endowed professorships, which allows higher education institutions to recruit highly sought after scholars and research faculty, both locally and from across the country.
